Personal Blog 2 – Nate

As an American kid trying German food for the first time, I didn’t know what to expect. Back home, I was used to burgers, pizza, and mac and cheese, so seeing dishes like bratwurst, sauerkraut, and schnitzel on the menu felt totally new. My first meal was at a small local, hole in the wall place called Antalya. It is right by the Wattenscheid post bus station. There I was able to experience a Döner. It was actually one of the best things i have experienced so far. Another food that is one of my favorites is the german pretzel bread which I really enjoy. The food culture is so different here. Everyone here is able to leave school or work to go get themselves lunch or go home and make something. The culture here provides for a more free self oriented life where as in America, once you go to school or work, you are trapped there until it is over.
