My Experience with German Food

Throughout the last few days, I’ve tried a variety of German foods, and everything has been delicious! The Döner was the one of the best things I’ve had here; getting it with the spicy sauce gave it the best flavor. Compared to American food, German’s use a lot more sauce and a lot less seasoning; for example, the Currywurst I had came with a lot of curry sauce on the wurst (sausage) and a large spoonful of mayonnaise on the fries. The fries by themselves, however, were incredibly bland, with only a light sprinkle of salt on them to add flavor; but, that doesn’t mean that it was bad. We have all said that everything here has been good, with next to nothing being bad.

The best thing I’ve had so far was Schnitzel. My German partner’s father made homemade schnitzel, and seeing them squeeze some fresh lemon juice on top, I followed. Every single bite was amazing, and it reminded me a lot of American fried foods, which are some of my favorites! The lemon juice also added the perfect mix between citrus-y and savory. The side of potatoes with hollandaise sauce was exceptionally good, and I ate so much of the sauce that they had to make more.

One of the foods that I had seen before and was surprised to see in person was Spargel. Spargel translates to asparagus in English; however, in America, Spargel is a specific variation of Asparagus that is a milky-white color. The Spargel tasted good on its own, but adding the hollandaise sauce gave it an amazing taste! After watching a documentary on Spargel from Food Insider, I had always wondered what was so special about it; and after tasting it, I wasn’t let down!
