A Night in Bochum

On May 30, my host took me to Bocum city to eat at a well-known Bavarian restaurant and explore Bochum with some friends and their family. While I had been to Bochum several times before in this exchange, this was the latest I had stayed out in the city, allowing me to see the vibrant nightlife of Bochum. The restaturant we went to was called Paulaner Botschaft, and we were immediatley welcomed into a large table to fit all 8 of us. When ordering drinks I went with water as I always do here, because I feel like I’ve been drinking more soda and less water here in Germany, so I try to counteract that at restuarants. My exchange partner wanted me to go here because Paulaner Botschaft has many typical German foods. I decided to get a schnitzel with fries and a paprika sauce. Although I’ve had schintzel before at places in America, this schnitzel in Germany is far better than those. For dessert our exchange partners also ordered this interesting dragon fruit drink, but I wasn’t too much for it.

After the restaurant we went walking around Bochum. At first we went to the Bochum sign in front of the Rathaus (townhall) and goofed aroung taking pictures and videos. Then we stopped in a Rewe, which is a grocery store. Here we looked for new drinks to try and german snacks that we might want to have for later. I ended up buying a Ben and Jerry’s bar of Tony’s Chocolate, which I absolutely love but struggle to find in stores in America. We didn’t really do much afterwards, just walking around and talking. But it was really cool to see the nightlife of Bochum. All of the restaurants and stores were beginning to light up and create a completely different atmosphere than what was present in the day. We walked around for another hour or so after shopping in Rewe, and then my exchange partner and I simply took the train back home to rest for the next day.
